It is peaceful and I love the tranquillity

“It is peaceful and I love the tranquillity, it’s all you can wish for in semi-retirement!”

Gordon Richards (Bush Pastures Residential Park)

Meet Gordon Richards, resident of our Bush Pastures Park. Richard is an HGV lorry driver and plant fitter. When not busy with his life on the park, he still works’ some shifts.

Read on for Gordon’s story in his own words.

“I used to live in a 4 bedroom house in Hertfordshire and lived there for more than 27 years. I had my 2 young daughters living with me, as well as my mum after my dad passed away.

When my daughters moved out and my mum passed away, the home felt really empty and just too big. It actually made me feel lonely as I had some very happy memories of the house being full of people and lots of activities going on!

I had somehow always known about residential park homes and was sure that I would go for that option when I could. I would have done it sooner but I was too young for them as well as had two daughters to bring up.

So when the right time came and I finally decided to move – park homes were an easy choice for me! They are so much more economical and manageable. My complete move took a couple of months and I part-exchanged my house which really made the move easier and less stressful.

One of my daughters still lives in our home town; my other daughter lives literally 6 miles from here. I have 3 gorgeous grandchildren whom I can see and spend time with as often as I like.

I love the location of my park home. It’s right on the outskirts of a lovely village. The park itself is quite small but that has contributed to making it a very close community. I absolutely love my neighbours and we look after each other.

Our park has lots of get-togethers, especially during the summer! The entire park takes part as a community and we also fundraise for local charities.

Two of our residents have lost their legs and we try to fundraise in ways that they can participate as well.

There is a lot to do near my park and things that are essential are close to me as well! We have some rich and interesting wildlife reserves close to us. The beautiful city of Ely is quite close and has a lovely cathedral. Most of the amenities are close-by as are various pubs and a bowling club.

The village itself is less than ¾ of a mile away from the park and there is a bus route right outside that takes you to everywhere needed. It can take you to Newmarket and all places close as well as a 20 min bus journey to a train station that has trains running straight to London and Stansted Airport etc”.

Thank you Gordon for sharing your lovely story!
